Animal Control Adoptions

Dogs that are not claimed by there owners are available for adoption after a 10 day waiting period. We reserve the right to refuse adoption of any shelter animal. Adoptable dogs must exhibit good temperament and health to be considered. Call for an appointment or stop by the Shelter between 8:30 am & 9:30 am or 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday

The adoption fee is $40.00 and you must have the dog vaccinated against rabies, spayed or neutered and obtain a County dog tag.

 Vaccinations may be administrated by your veterinarian or by any number of clinics available. See an animal Control Officer for more information. Proof of vaccination is required for adoption.

Spaying or neutering is a condition of adoption. Your veterinarian or by any number of clinics can perform this. See an Animal Control Officer for more information. Proof of Spaying or neutering is required for adoption

 Dog tags can be obtained at the County Treasures Office

The Treasurer's Office is located in the Courthouse Annex Building 11 Bank Street, Chatham, Virginia 434-432-7960. Parking is available on Main Street or directly behind the Courthouse.

 Spayed or Neutered $5.00
Non-altered $5.00
Kennel Tags (1 - 20 dogs) $40.00
Kennel Tags (20+ dogs) $50.00
Duplicate tag $2.00
*Declared Vicious $50.00

(*Must be obtained from Animal Control Office)

Cats are not held at the County Facility they are brought to the Danville Area Human Society were they can be seen for adoption.
