Pittsylvania County Communications Center strives to provide the most effective emergency communications possible. To attain this goal we must establish professional standards and attract, train and retain the qualified employees necessary to provide this service. This agency will carry out all tasks with an eye towards the future. We will strive to make innovation, cost effectiveness and cooperation our standard, and provide an effective and courteous response to the needs of our county.
Pittsylvania County is the largest county in the state of Virginia covering almost 1000 sq. miles. We Provide many services to the 61,000+ citizens of this county including Enhanced 911, and the dispatching of fire, rescue and police and other services to emergencies around the clock. We are located in a state of the art communications center here in Chatham, the county seat. To those we serve, we are better known as "Ce-Com", which is short for Central Communications.
We take calls and dispatch for the Sheriff’s Office, Chatham, Gretna, and Hurt town Police Departments, 21 Fire Departments, 12 Rescue Squads, the Virginia Dept. of Forestry, a Search and Rescue group, and Animal Control. We also assist the State Game Wardens, ABC Agents and the Virginia State Police.
Our center is staffed 24 hours a day, with a minimum of 2 dispatchers and 1 supervisor on duty. We utilize state of the art Computer Aided Dispatch software, computerized radio consoles, enhanced 9-1-1 telephone equipment, and the latest in weather tracking devices to ensure a quick and reliable response to the emergencies that are encountered

action?Tours are available to the general public by appointment. These are very visual and informative demonstrations given by one of the on duty dispatchers. You can obtain a very good understanding of the behind the scenes work involved in 9-1-1 call taking and dispatching of emergency services. Arrangements can be made by contacting Mrs. Betty Bryant in our emergency services office at (434) 432-7920 during normal business hours. School and social groups are welcome. We do offer learning materials during the tours
