The PCLP Office is located at: The Pittsylvania County Literacy Program provides one-on-one Tutoring to adult county residents who desire to improve their literacy skills. Students range from young adults who need additional help with passing the GED, to older individuals who are low level readers. Tutoring services are also provided to Pittsylvania County Jail inmates as requested. Students and tutors generally meet at local libraries or churches. In addition, there are 2 off site Adult Basic Education Centers to accommodate students in the Northern and Southern areas of the county. Computer instruction is available at the Pittsville Center. There is no cost to students or tutors. Materials are provided. New students and new volunteer tutors are always welcome! Tutors are required to be at least 18 years old; to have a high school diploma or a GED; to have a clean criminal history; to have transportation; to commit to meet with their student at least one hour per week; and to have a desire to improve the quality of life for others. |
